Thursday and Friday the band held a mini-band camp. Which is when the incoming freshman come and get stands music, what ever parts of the show we have and start to learn basics.
This year the turnout was excellent. 11 clarinets and 14 drummers 6 trumpets, one mello showed but we expect one or two more… One bass clarinet (our band now has 2 kids marching bass clarinet.) and we expect more students in the summer for our real band camp. We sounded pretty good so far and I had a great time.
I finally got a chance to conduct in class on thursday and I was scared. I didn’t want to mess up and look like a fool but it went well. Then I conducted both nights for mini-band camp. And my arms are sore. Hahaha it sounds dumb but I wasnt expecting to be sore at all. And I liked teaching marching basics. Conducting makes me so happy, it makes me smile like crazy but I try to hold that in because I look stupid.
And tonight ever since I left school at 8:00, kids have been texting me telling me I did a great job the last two nights, thanking me for today, telling me that they liked how I did certain things, and how they are actually excited for summer band camp and marching season. This meant a lot to me, to have so many people telling me I was doing a great job and that for once they are excited to march and even some told me they were going to practice all summer so they won’t mess up on any music. I haven’t been this happy in a long time. I like knowing that so many kids are on the same page as me and may of the officers and we are in it to win it this year. I am happy and have a good feeling about where the band stands at the moment and it feels great.
Overall I would have to say that this whole “hair chalking” thing is pretty cool.
Having brown hair, wanting to color it but do not want to bleach my hair is something that bothers me. But this was a simple and fast way to put some fun colors into my hair and not have to deal with bleach or a crappy colored outcome.
There was hardly any mess besides the color pigment on my hands from holding my hair, pigment on my brush and on my flat iron. All of which came out after being rinsed with water. So that’s good because I didn’t like the fact that my hands look like Rainbow Dash fucking vomited on them. The pigment didn’t come off on my clothes but I know it could so I will just watch out for that in the future.
Downside: I just washed my hair and after brushing it out I noticed the parts I had used blue in had a very slight blue tint still. So I rubbed it out with a towel and same happened for the part that was pink and purple. There is still a very small amount of color in my hair though. But that is because the natural highlights in my hair are lighter and took in more of the pigment. This slight bit of color will most likely come out in the next wash. I don’t think anyone else but me could notice the bit of color there still.
So all in all, I will definitely keep using the chalks. I loved the bright colors in my hair and the fact that they pretty much came out right away in the shower. I won’t do this every day because I understand how it could cause damage to the hair but I will do it in the future, and for the hell of it I am going to do it tomorrow and then go to dance like that and mess with my dance teachers. The rule is no extreme hair color before a show. They will flip a shit. Ahahhaha
Tried “hair chalking” and it actually turned out really well. The picture doesn do any justice, but it looks cool. You can’t really see too well but I did a gradient from hot pink to purple and some random parts of my hair are blue too. I also did not have any of the negative aspect of chalking that I have heard about. It only made my hands messy but I washed hands and they are color free, it has not gotten on my clothes and I am wearing a white sweater. I love this and it can wash out which is good so yes, I will continue to chalk my hair. Its like hair color minus commitment
